Achieving Personal Fulfillment Ezine explores how to progress rapidly from dreams to action.  It is a free monthly email newsletter written by Maurine D. Patten, life/business coach and clinical psychologist.

Topics are presented from the perspective of Maurine Patten and are provided to help you get the results you want.  It will help you manage change, improve your Emotional Intelligence and make better decisions with less effort.

During the months of May and June, I find myself spending more time in the greeting card section of a store.  My family has five birthdays plus there is graduation time, Mother's Day and Father's Day for which I need to buy cards.

As I was making my choices this year, I ran across a card that struck me as very meaningful even though it wasn't one I purchased.  It started out with the statement, "How to Make a Beautiful Life" which intrigued me.  In this issue, I will look at some important ingredients for making a beautiful life.  It is dedicated to my oldest grandson who is graduating from 8th grade.

2. Five Ways to Make a Beautiful Life

"Beautiful can mean different things to different people.  Webster's dictionary defines it as "having beauty; very pleasing and satisfying to the senses, eye, ear, and mind."

The suggestions that I am giving you focus on your emotional and mental well-being.  I am assuming that your basic needs for food, water, shelter, and physical and financial security are met.

Sometimes life can be confusing and messy.  You may look for shortcuts to tomorrow and not find any.  Even so, it is possible to find your own way.  What may seem to be a rock in your path may end up being a stepping stone to something important.

You need to know where you are going as well as where you have been.  If you feel lost, people who love you will find you.  Get in touch with your purpose for being here.   Your purpose grounds you and keeps you moving forward.

3. Getting into Action

Life is more than days and years.  It is what you do with your time, the goodness inside of you and the choices you make.  Life is full of surprises.  To make a beautiful life which you deserve:

  1. Love yourself that means making peace with who you are at this moment in time;  enjoy your own company.
  2. Make time for yourself so that you can listen with your heart for your purpose in life.
  3. Think positively and be happy.  Remember, mistakes are opportunities to learn.
  4. Put effort into things that are important to you; try.  Be willing to stretch yourself  and move outside your comfort zone once in a while.
  5. Learn to be accepting and flexible when you can't alter or avoid a situation to decrease your stress level.  There is a saying, "When you don't have what you want, try wanting what you have."

Let me give you a challenge to stretch yourself and make these suggestions uniquely yours:  add two more things to this list that you know would make your life beautiful.  Choose one of these ideas a week to focus on until you feel it is a part of who you really are.
